Police in the Ashanti North Region have arrested eight suspected highway robbers linked to a violent attack on passengers along the Mampong–Ejura stretch.

The operation, carried out by the Ghana Police Service, follows a robbery on March 26, 2026, near Aframso Bridge, where six armed men ambushed a minibus transporting 14 passengers, making away with cash and mobile phones.

Acting on intelligence, a special team stormed Amakwa Dadey Hotel on March 30, where the suspects were allegedly dividing the stolen items.

Items retrieved during the operation include GH¢15,717 in cash, three cutlasses, two rounds of AK-47 ammunition, several mobile phones, a talisman, and other materials believed to be connected to the robbery.

Police say investigations are ongoing as efforts intensify to track down additional accomplices and recover more weapons believed to be in circulation.

Residents and commuters have been urged to remain alert and assist law enforcement agencies with credible information to help curb rising cases of highway robbery in the area.
