The Election Commission of India has introduced an app ahead of the 2019 assembly elections. Called cVIGIL, the app aims to empower the citizens of the country to record and report any violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Users can do so by clicking photos and recording videos using the app and their smartphone camera. Presently, the app is only available for Android users and citizens can sign up for it with a simple method.
Users can download the app for free from the Google Play store. After the installation the app will ask for three permissions. Firstly, it will ask for the access to your smartphone camera. Secondly, it will want access to the smartphone's gallery and lastly, it will ask for the access to your GPS location tracking.
Once you give the permissions then the app will ask you to register yourself. First you have to give your phone number and then enter the OTP. Followed by this you will have to write your full name and address. After this, you are ready to use the app.
You will now see two main icons on the screen one is for taking photos and other is for recording videos.
Apart from this the Election Commission has also given a list of 15 things about which you can report. The list include the following:
1. Money distribution
2. Gifts/coupons distribution
3. Liquor distribution
4. Posters/banners without permission
5. Display of firearms, intimidation
6. Vehicles or convoys without permission
7. Paid news
8. Property Defacement

9. Transportation of voters on polling day

10. Campaigning within 200 meters of the polling booth

11. Campaigning during ban period

12. Religious or communal speeches/messages

13. Use of speakers beyond permitted time.

14. Posters without mandatory declaration

15. Transportation of public rallies
