Distributors of electronic appliances want the Energy Commission to intensify the regulation of the importation of substandard products unto the Ghanaian market.
According to them, the situation has led to a relative increase in energy consumption.
They further state that some of these products are not durable.
Speaking to Citi Business News, the Chief Operations Officer of EDERICK, Gladstone Nyakutse said, effective supervision will protect consumers from the harmful effects of inferior products.

‘’We are troubled by the second hand goods. The Energy Commission is trying to stop people from bringing in the second hand goods to Ghana but looking around, there is still a lot of used fridges, cookers and others…Although the Energy Commission is doing its best to stop them, I think they can still do more,’’ he stated.

Mr. Gladstone Nyakutse was speaking at the side lines of the 30th anniversary launch of EDERICK the sole distributors of Whirlpool domestic appliances.
The company currently has five showrooms and retail outlets in Accra.
The COO however tells of plans to soon expand the branches to Tamale in the Northern region.
