Ghanaian midfielder Elisha Owusu has signed a contract extension with French Ligue 1 side Auxerre until 2027.

Owusu, who joined Auxerre in January 2023, quickly established himself as a key player.

Despite the team’s relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season, Owusu played a crucial role in their immediate return to Ligue 1.

His performances were instrumental in Auxerre’s successful campaign, which saw them clinch the Ligue 2 title and secure promotion for the 2024/25 season.

The club announced the extension with enthusiasm:

"Great news for AJA: Elisha Owusu has extended his contract until June 2027! Our vice-captain, a great architect of the rise to Ligue 1 with 33 matches played and an unforgettable goal to secure victory in the derby against Troyes (2-1), therefore links his future with that of the club.

“Arriving in January 2023, Elisha was unfortunately seriously injured and was unable to play in Ligue 1 in the blue and white jersey.

Determined and always smiling, he finally came back even stronger to help AJA return to the elite. His performances even allowed him to play in the last African Cup of Nations with Ghana, alongside his teammate Gideon Mensah.

“This contract extension is therefore a strong symbol of the club’s ambition to perform at the highest level, and the entire AJA is delighted that the adventure with Elisha continues,” read the official statement from AJ Auxerre.

Owusu, who will serve as second captain for the 2024/25 season, has also been a regular figure in the Ghana national team.

His recent performances earned him invitations to crucial matches, showcasing his qualities and abilities even while competing in the lower tier.

Auxerre fans can look forward to seeing Owusu continue to play a pivotal role in their team’s ambitions in Ligue 1.
