Emerse Fae has been appointed as the permanent coach of the Ivory Coast national team following his successful stint leading the Elephants to victory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 40-year-old initially took over on an interim basis after Jean-Louis Gasset's departure during the group stage of the finals.

Despite a rocky start, including a significant defeat to Equatorial Guinea, Fae guided the team to an impressive turnaround.

Under his leadership, the Ivorians progressed as one of the four best third-placed teams and showcased remarkable resilience in the knockout stages.

They defeated Senegal on penalties, overcame Mali with 10 men in the quarter-finals, and secured a comeback win against DR Congo in the semi-finals.

In the final, Ivory Coast rallied from a goal down to defeat Nigeria 2-1, clinching their third continental title in Abidjan on February 11.

Idriss Diallo, the president of the Ivorian Football Federation, confirmed Fae's appointment as the full-time coach, although the length of his contract was not disclosed.

"Emerse was until now interim coach and has just been confirmed as full coach," Diallo said.

Meanwhile, former Ivory Coast coach Jean-Louis Gasset has been unveiled as the new manager of Marseille following the dismissal of Gennaro Gattuso.

In other coaching news, Liberia has appointed Mario Marinica, the former coach of Malawi, as their new boss on a two-year deal ahead of the start of their 2025 Nations Cup qualifying campaign.

The Lone Stars are set to face Djibouti in a two-legged preliminary round tie next month, with the winners advancing to join the top 44 African sides in the main qualifying draw for the 2025 finals, slated to be held in Morocco.

However, the dates for the 2025 tournament are yet to be announced, raising concerns about potential scheduling conflicts with the FIFA Club World Cup scheduled for June and July next year.
