Former Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor has thrown his support behind Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy to clinch the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, favoring him over contenders Mohammed Kudus of Ghana and Nigeria's Victor Osimhen.

Despite Kudus' impressive debut season at West Ham, Adebayor believes Guirassy is the most deserving candidate for the prestigious accolade.

Guirassy distinguished himself with VfB Stuttgart during the past season, emerging as a top contender after a stellar performance in the Bundesliga.

The French-born Guinean striker secured second place in the Bundesliga Golden Boot race, closely trailing behind the prolific Harry Kane.

Throughout the 2023/24 campaign, Guirassy showcased his exceptional talent by netting 28 goals and providing 2 assists in 28 league matches.

Adebayor, who himself won the CAF Player of the Year award in 2008, expressed strong support for Guirassy's candidacy.

"Of course [he deserves to win]," Adebayor affirmed to Afrik-Foot. "He had an extraordinary season with Stuttgart, he is a striker who scored a lot.

He will be one of the contenders, that's for sure."

As anticipation builds for the announcement of the CAF Player of the Year, Adebayor's endorsement lends considerable weight to Guirassy's prospects of securing the prestigious award.
