National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has lashed out at the Akufo-Addo led  government over the suspension of the Eastern Regional Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Fred Dzeny.

According to the Former Minister of Roads and Highways under the erstwhile Mahama administration, the suspension is proof of  intolerance to dissenting views by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

Mr Dzeny was suspended after he called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to prosecute his own appointees as part of efforts to fight corruption.

He said in a recent interview with journalists that: “The ruling government should be ready first and foremost to prosecute their own when the slightest incident of corruption is raised against the ruling government then they can also get the guts to prosecute the opposition.”

“When you look at the corruption cases in Ghana, it is not just politicians who are corrupt, the public servants, civil servants, they are all corrupt. When you look at it, it is the Chief Directors who prepare contract documents and other things, so, if we are blaming the politicians, it is not right, it is the public servants generally.”

In reaction to the matter, Alhaji Inusah said: “The government is increasingly showing how intolerant it is when it comes to the expression of opinion and views of individuals”.

He said the view of the Eastern Regional Director of EOCO is “rational and it is in accord with right-thinking persons”.

The lawmaker pointed out that the almost two-year-old Akufo-Addo government has been mired in a litany of corruption allegations, so, it is “only proper and fitting that the government demonstrates its commitment in fighting corruption by first dealing with those people in this government who are perceived to be corrupt”.

He said the Eastern Region EOCO boss’ concern is shared by “a great number of Ghanaians”, and, so, that “should not be the basis of a suspension”.
