Some 50 aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party at Akropong Constituency in the Eastern Region have threatened to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ in this year’s December 7 general elections, claiming they have unfairly been treated by the party.
Regional executives of the party are said to have since October 1 suspended 14 polling station executives within the constituency on claims that they have been working against the interest of the NPP.
At a press conference Thursday, 14 excutives and their supporters said the decision to suspend them was unfair and unconstitutional because the party failed to give them a fair hearing as natural justice demands.
“We the aggrieved members of the NPP in the Akropong Constituency hereby say due to the unconstitutional manner in which they suspend us at their meeting on 1st October at Mamfe, we have decided not to abide by it,” their leader, Ammishadae Ansah told TV3.
He claimed no disciplinary proceedings were initiated to look into the allegation leveled against them; an action he said is not in the party’s constitution.
“We have waited to be called for more discussions, but that has not happened yet. It means they have taken us for granted,” he said.
The executives and their followers have thus threatened not to vote for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the constituency.
The have vowed to vote for an independent candidate and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the presidential election.
“So we are voting for Nana Addo but in the parliamentary, we all and our family shall vote for Nana Ofei Ansah. We are ready to participate in all his activities to ensure that he wins the parliamentary seat,” Mr Ansah who is the polling station executive of Ewurade Ketewa stated.
