A former Convention Peoples Party (CPP) General Secretary, Nana Yaa Jantuah, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of hurting the campaign of his preferred successor, Mahamudu Bawumia.

Akufo-Addo has recently campaigned for Bawumia by taking direct shots at the main opposition candidate for the 2024 elections, John Dramani Mahama, who the president insists cannot take over from him.

The president at a recent event said he could not hand over to Mahama because his legacy would be under threat with a Mahama presidency.

Jantuah, speaking on TV3 (May 9) disagreed with the president's position: "But how can he (Mahama) come and continue (your legacy)? Nobody will come and continue this legacy, even Bawumia says he has his own vision... he is even running away from the legacy.

"His Excellency Bawumia says that he is going to remove all the taxes - obnoxious and nuisance, so who would want this legacy? Even the man who is taking over does not even acknowledge the legacy. He himself is running away, so who would take it?" she quizzed referring to the legacy as rubbish.

She said that besides the handing over comment, Akufo-Ado's claim that rolling power outages (known as dumsor) was over was also unacceptable.

Mahama in his response to Akufo-Addo has stressed that he cannot continue a legacy of corruption, mismanagement of state resources and incompetence as has characterised this government.
