A former District Chief Executive for Nanumba North in the Northern region who complemented a lasting cease fire between the Konkomba Tribe and the majority Nanumba tribe in a longstanding emancipation and self-recognition war has been appointed the new regional minister for a region plagued by land and chieftaincy conflicts.

That war saw over one million people killed while dozens were displaced.

Hon. Salifu Saeed, 44, a native of Bimbila was a programme officer at Action Aid Ghana in 2001 before he was appointed district chief executive by former president kuffour in 2005 for a district badly devastated by tribal wars.

During his turbulent term as political head of the district Mr. Saaed was able to ensure sustenance of a nine (9) year old truce brokered to end over a century old war between Konkombas and the Nanumbas over land ownership and chieftaincy.

Mr. Saeed a graduate of GIMPA was also able to manage the ongoing dynastic dispute between two royal gates in Nanun before chaos broke out in 2014 over a meat.

Party activists and executives in the region told this Kasapa FM’s Northern Regional Correspondent, Eliasu Tanko that the enormous knacks in conflict management and excellent human relationship of the former DCE made President Akuffo Addo to choose him over Mr. Clifford Braiama a former regional scribe of the party.

He delivered satisfactorily maintaining peace and also ensuring stable economy in the district. At his time, he lobbied and brought back many multi-lateral and development partners like UNICEF, WFP, CIDA, IBIS, and SNV who fled the conflicts in 2000, and also supervised and provided for the organization of successful 2008 election without violence.

He played unquantifiable role in the victory of the party, an executive of party said.

Some youth have expressed joy though the appointment is yet to be made public.

They are hopeful the yet to be named regional minister’s pick will help prosecute the NPP political agenda of restoring hope to the people in the region exploited by the previous NDC administration.

This is the first time in history that an individual from the Nanumba ethnic group is occupying the regional top position.
