Kumasi Asante Kotoko last Friday announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Fabio Dos Santos Gama on a two year deal.

The player's signing has generated a lot of noise with most people ridiculing the club as they have history of signing sub standard Brazilian players in the past.

In the early 2000's the club announced to its massive supporters that they had signed some two Brazilian midfielders but it ended up in tears as they were nowhere near good enough to play for any team talk of Asante Kotoko.

Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Moses Antwi Benefo says the club have signed a quality player who even before his arrival is giving Kotoko a lot of mileage.

Fabio Gama Dos Santos, a lot of people are lambasting us, it has become the talking point in the country but as we speak, about seventeen international top sports websites are reporting about him. The French-speaking countries, Portuguese and others are all talking about him and it tells you his level,” he said.

“Some describe him as a top player while others are skeptical. His signing is creating a buzz around the team, the boy, and around the league because people will be willing to watch that orthodox number 10.”

“Brazil is bound with talents so if he is able to feature for the U-17 and U-20 national teams it tells the quality he possesses. We should forget about people saying he does not score goals, he is an orthodox player,” he concluded.

Gama has been without a club since March this after leaving Swedish side Jönköping Södra where he played 33 matches for the Swedish elite division scoring three goals while providing two assists.

The left footed central midfielder has in the past played for EC Bahia, Botafogo, Serrano Ba,Itabaina SE ,ABC FC among others all in his native Brazil.

In Sweden he also played for Värnamo in 2019 before joining  Jönköping Södra a year later.
