The Electricity Company of Ghana is warning Ghanaians to look out for ECG staff who are going round selling fake energy saving cards to unsuspecting customers.

The company has already arrested and prosecuted a Pastor Jude Bentum, and two electricians Kofi Aboagye and Osusey Richard who posed as ECG staff to sell these fake energy saving cards at Sowutuom in the Ga Central Municiplity of Greater Accra Region.

The three have been sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mrs. Afi Agbanu-Kudomor to 6 month in prison with hard labour.

Manager in charge of Prosecutions at ECG, Paul Assibey Abriga says the card is a scam which only offers temporal relieve to customers but in the end it makes the meters run faster so Ghanaians should beware.

“You will be relieved for a while but when the card expires, the distribution system begin to normalize and in that period the meter recoup all that it lost during the interference period; the meter will begin to run faster and that is when you begin to complain” He warned.

He urged customers to demand the ID cards of suspicious officials who approach them and quickly alert the police. “If you get people who come around you posing as ECG staff, you just have to watch their demeanor and be sure then you just alert the nearest police so we get them because they are a menace to the society.
