In the wake of the fatal floods that has hit Ghana’s capital in the past few days, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has listed areas it says are flood prone and others that are safe havens.

The flood prone areas include: Laterbiokoshie, Osu, Bubiashie, South Odorkor, Mpoase, Korle Bu, Arena and Legon. While the Safe havens are: The Salvation Cluster of Schools, Presby Vocational School, Laterbiokoshie, Town Council Line park, Bishop Bowers, Independence Square, Cable and Wireless Park, Wesley Grammer School.

The rest are Ebenezer Senior High School, Indadfa Park, Ayalolo cluster of schools, University of Ghana, Karl Reindoff park, Roman Catholic School park and the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex.

The announcement comes on the back of Monday’s torrential rains that resulted in the death of at least nine persons in the Greater Accra, Central and Volta Regions. In Accra 32 year old Dr Aya Hayfron lost her life after her car was swept away by the floods.
