Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has applauded veteran Black Stars defender Dennis Odoi for his outstanding  display against Madagascar on Wednesday at the Cape Coast Stadium in the 2023 AFCON qualifier.

Ghana defeated the Islanders by 3-0 with goals coming from Kudus Mohammed, Felix Afena-Gyan and Osman Bukari.

The veteran defender was the supplier of the opening goal as he raced the full length of the pitch before passing to  Felix Afena-Gyan who cut the ball back for Kudus Mohammed to  struck home for the opener in the 54th minute.

Odoi Frimpong who was born in Belgium made his Ghana debut in the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup play offs first leg against Nigeria at the Baba  Yara Stadium.

Speaking after the game, the former Ghana goalkeeper praised the wily defender for his exceptional perfomance.

“Dennis Odoi reminds me of Harrison Afful, he is able to dash forward and defend as well. To be able to succeed in such positions, you need to be intelligent,” he said.

“I think we’ve gotten the right replacement after Harrison Afful and Samuel Inkoom. I think the Ghana FA are still in talks with Tariq Lamptey to switch nationality so we can get a lot of options in that position.”

Ghana will travel to Angola to play Central African Republic in the second group game of the 2023 AFCON qualifier before traveling to Japan for the Kirin Cup.
