FC Nordsjaelland manager Jens Fønsskov Olsen has heaped praise on legendary Ghanaian footballer Michael Essien for his significant contributions to the club, particularly in mentoring young players transitioning to the first team.

Since retiring from professional football, Essien, the former Chelsea midfielder, has been working as an individual talent coach at the Danish Superliga club.

In this role, he shares his wealth of experience with the younger players, helping them develop both on and off the field.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Olsen highlighted Essien’s behind-the-scenes efforts and his invaluable guidance. “First of all, it has been great meeting Michael Essien.

He has a great personality and a lot of charisma. He is here to support the young guys. Having played football at a high level in different cultures, he brings a lot of experience to the table,” Olsen said.

Olsen further emphasized Essien’s attention to detail and his ability to provide valuable feedback. “Essien has a role that’s slightly behind the scenes.

He is excellent at focusing on small details and preparing the players in our style of play. His experience at the top level helps him offer crucial insights, both in training and when reviewing match clips,” he added.

Essien, who enjoyed a glittering playing career with Chelsea, winning multiple trophies, also earned 59 caps for the Black Stars of Ghana.

His post-playing career has seen him continue to influence the next generation of footballers at Nordsjaelland.
