I extend my gratitude to Mr. Kofi Bentil, Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, for his insightful clarification on how the term 'arrogance' is perceived in Ghana.

Mr. Bentil highlighted on Newsfile that the Ghanaian interpretation of 'arrogance' often differs from its dictionary definition. In Ghana, articulate, assertive, and well-organized individuals are sometimes labeled as arrogant.

This perspective helps explain the controversy surrounding Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s ( NAPO's) comments about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. During his outdooring as Dr. Bawumia's Running Mate, Dr. Prempeh stated that President Akufo-Addo is the best Ghanaian President ever, even surpassing Dr. Nkrumah; and this has sparked outcry among critics.

But why is there even resistance to Dr. Prempeh’s statement? Out of the 11 Presidents Ghana has had, is it not a fact that President Akufo-Addo is the one who has faced unprecedented global challenges, including COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war? Despite these severe challenges, has he not achieved significant successes?

It is without doubt that Dr. Nkrumah did not contend with such global crises, and no previous President has faced challenges of the magnitude encountered by President Akufo-Addo.

So why should Dr. Prempeh’s assertion be challenged? The accompanying video features Mr. Kofi Bentil on Newsfile, clarifying how Ghanaians understand and use the term 'arrogance'.
