Kwesi Nyantakyi was provisionally suspended by the Ethics Committee of FIFA for 90 days [3 months] but news just in indicates the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President has been served with additional 45 days.

The initial ban on the former Confederation of African Football (CAF) First Vice President expires this week.

The Ethic Committee suspended Mr Nyantakyi following the premier of an investigative piece on corrupt practices in the Ghana FA, dubbed Number 12 by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The initial ban was handed on 8th June after the broadcast of the tape with the body claiming there was prima facie for Nyantakyi to answer.

With the deadline for the initial suspension set to expire in two days time, the Ethics Committee has requested for more time to investigate the case.

“Provisional suspension of football official Kwesi Nyantakyi extended for 45 days by independent Ethics Committee,” a statement by the Ethics Committee read on Wednesday.

“On 8 June 2018, the chairperson of the adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee provisionally banned the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, for a duration of 90 days.

“Today, the chairperson has decided to extend this provisional suspension for an additional period of 45 days.

“During this time, Mr Nyantakyi will continue to be banned from all football-related activities at both national and international level.

“The extension of the ban will commence on 6 September 2018.

“This decision was taken at the request of the chairperson of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee carrying out the formal investigation proceedings into Mr Nyantakyi, pursuant to art. 85 par. 1 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.”

Nyantakyi has strongly rejected any claims of any wrongdoing and has already instituted three legal actions against Anas Aremeyaw Anas in the law courts in Ghana.
