FIFA president Gianni Infantino has challenged African football to find solutions following the poor showing from the continent’s representatives at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

None of Africa’s five teams made it past the group stage in Russia, with Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco managing only three wins between them.

It is the first time it has failed to reach the second round since 1982.

Before the final round of group matches, Senegal looked the likeliest African team to progress after picking 4 points from two games, but lost to Colombia in their third game to bizarrely exit on the fair play rules, the first time at the competition the rule has take effect.

Their West African neighbours, Nigeria also fell out of the World Cup following their defeat to Argentina in that final group game,

However, Egypt-seven times African Champions-, Tunisia and Morocco were all eliminated after the second round of games.

"Looking at the results of African teams in the World Cup in Russia must force the football leaders to find out how the teams can perform better," Infantino said at the CAF Extraordinary Assembly, as quoted by ESPN.

"Africa must ask questions on World Cup performance, and how their teams can get better."
