Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has inaugurated the newly constituted 13-member Board of Directors of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBoD), highlighting the institution’s vital role in Ghana’s economic transformation agenda.

Speaking at the official ceremony, Dr. Forson commended the board members on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, charging them to fulfil their mandate with diligence and integrity.

“You have a critical responsibility to strengthen Ghana’s gold trade, enhance transparency in the sector, and support our ongoing economic recovery,” the Minister told the appointees.

Dr. Forson noted that the country’s strategic pivot toward harnessing its gold resources is already yielding significant economic benefits. He cited the performance of the Ghanaian cedi, which has appreciated by 16.7% against the US dollar as of May 13, 2025—making it the world’s best-performing currency so far this year.

He attributed this achievement to a blend of prudent fiscal management, improved revenue from gold, cocoa, and remittances, and effective coordination between fiscal and monetary authorities.

“The establishment and operationalisation of the Ghana Gold Board is timely,” he said. “It will be instrumental in consolidating our economic gains and ensuring that our natural resources drive inclusive, long-term growth.”

The Finance Minister stressed the importance of good governance within the board, underscoring government expectations for transparency, efficiency, and ethical leadership.

Expressing full confidence in the board’s composition, Dr. Forson singled out its chairman, Mr. Kojo Fynn, as a capable leader. “I am confident that under Mr. Fynn’s leadership, the board will operate with professionalism and a deep commitment to national progress,” he remarked.

He closed his address with a rallying call for unity and shared responsibility: “Let us continue working together to build a stronger and more resilient Ghanaian economy.”
