The Minister of energy, John Peter Amewu, has gone back on his words to state that the recent cut in power supply is as a result of financial challenges

The minister, speaking to Citi News earlier stated that the challenges with the erratic power supply were due to technical challenges and not financial issues.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, November 26, 2018, Amewu said, the government was willing and ready to pay US$1 per MMBtu while the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCO), expected US$3.2 per MMBtu as tariff

According to him, Ghana had enough gas to fuel the country’s gas-powered plants, but could not do that until the necessary financial obligations are completed with the West African Gas Pipeline Authority.

He added that the new amount would be approved by the committee of ministers on the November 30, 2018 to pave way for the signing of the Gas Transportation Agreement which would allow for the connection of the by-pass

This when signed, he said, would help resolve the current cut in power supply in the being faced in the country.

Amewu, however, stressed that the challenges of Ghana’s power supply and the power cuts citizens suffered are now under control.

He therefore reassured the people of Ghana that the country was not going to experience ‘dum kwraa’ as experienced in the NDC era
