Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, has instructed that all national flags at public buildings across the country be raised to full mast, effective immediately, following the successful state funeral of the eight public officials who tragically died in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement released on Monday, August 18, the Presidency expressed deep appreciation to Ghanaians and the international community for their overwhelming support in the wake of the tragedy.

The government acknowledged the expressions of solidarity from chiefs, clergy, Muslim clerics, civil society groups, the diplomatic corps, political leaders, security chiefs, and service personnel who offered condolences, assistance, and stood by the families of the victims during this period of mourning.

The victims of the crash included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Samuel Aboagye, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed.

“As we return to the duties of resetting Ghana and building the country we want, let us remain united in prayer, comfort one another, and continue to support the families affected by this tragedy,” he said.

Special recognition was given to individuals and corporate organisations whose generous contributions ensured that the victims were given a dignified and fitting state burial, reflecting the compassion of the Ghanaian people.

“As we move forward with our duties of rebuilding and strengthening Ghana, let us remain united in prayer, continue to comfort one another, and keep supporting the families who are affected by this tragedy,” the statement read.

In a notable act of support, Stanbic Bank Ghana has donated GHS 500,000 to the newly established Children’s Support Fund, created to provide financial assistance to the children of the victims.
