Former deputy sports minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Joseph Yamin says that the National Democratic Congress(NDC) government had no option than to fly bills of dollar notes to Brazil to the Black Stars.

He says the Black Stars squad threatened to boycott Ghana's last match against Portugal unless they see their appearance bonus in cash or its paid to them.

Speaking on Accra based Starr FM, Joseph Yamin insisted government had no other options in dealing with the matter hence can’t be blamed.

The issue became a global topic in the world that a third world country like Ghana could charter a plane full of cash just to pay football players out of which a film has been shot about the incident.

“Flying the money to Brazil was the only means we could get money to the players, they were insisting they will not play if they don’t see the physical cash.

“You have a day to do that, there is no bank transaction that could get them the money at that particular moment so the only means was to fly it.

"The point is that government did nothing wrong, let me set the records straight," he added.

Ghana in 2010 during the World Cup in Brazil infamously airlifted an amount of $3million to players after they tried to boycott Ghana last group game against Portugal.

Ghana lost to the United States America [USA] in their opening game and drew with Germany in their second group game but before they could play Portugal in their last group game threatened to boycott their final group game against Portugal if their appearance fee is not paid.
