Former Black Stars midfielder, Derek Boateng says that football must be run by footballers as it pertains in every industry.

The former midfielder bemoaned the sidelining of ex-footballers as he believe they are the right persons to run football but they are on the periphery.

He cited that former U-17 great Nii Odartey Lamptey should have been at the camp of the Black Starlets motivating them but that has not been the case.

Speaking in an interview with Hot FM, the former Fulham player revealed that old players are not being used well by the GFA.

“ Footballers must run football and that’s why it’s always good to have former players attached to the teams, Starlets are currently in Cape Coast but Odartey Lamptey has not even been engaged to go to the camp and speak to the young players and this is bad” He furiously stated

“ We the old players are not being used well around the National teams, I had an engagement with one of my colleagues in Panatinaikos, He boldly told me that if they had Abedi Pele in Nigeria, they would win the World Cup.”

Derrick Boateng played for the likes of Fulham, Getafe, Eibar, Rayo Vallecano, Dnipro among others.

He was capped 40 times by Ghana and scored just once.
