Former Sports Journalist and Minister for Youth and Sports under the erstwhile John Mahama regime, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye says the Ghana Footbaal Associaition should forget about qualifying the Black Stars for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and build for the future.

Ghana is on the verge of appointing former Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac in a bid to resuscitate Ghana's flailing hopes of making it to Qatar 2022 despite two games played so far in the qualifiers.

According to the Odododiodio Constituency legislator, the Ghana Football Association should keep their focus on building solid teams for the future at all levels for Ghana and stop the short term approach of qualifying for tournaments at all cost.

“I will subscribe to ditching the World Cup campaign,” he told Umaru Sanda on Citi TV’s Face to Face show.

“We cannot achieve results with this current mentality and strategy where we invite players, assemble them to play a match and leave.

“We should plan and build a national team where we have a structure to teams in the lower categories".

“We should set targets for the next 20 years for our teams winning the world cup at different levels".

“We should have a technical structure and have a director to draw up programs for the entire set up to make use of,”

Ghana will play against Zimbabwe in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers next month in a doubleheader.
