Former Black Stars midfielder Abu Imoro has died in Accra.

His death was reported by the President of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana(PFAG), Anthony Baffoe.

Abu Imoro died on Tuesday, 28th June, 2022 around 3 pm in Accra.

The former midfielder had taken to hard drugs which ravaged his once promising career as he  lived in ruins, tatters and abject penury as captured by a TV3 documentary some two years ago.

His living condition was deplorable as he lived in an abandoned slum with no door, with the room filled with a heap of refuse and no mattress to sleep on as reported by TV3 then.

Abu Imoro a hard tackling defensive midfielder during his playing days played for the likes of Real Tamale United and Great Olympics while also playing for the Black Stars all in the 1980's.

The tough tackling midfielder had been devoured by hard drugs and depended on the benevolence of others but when that news broke former teammates at Great Olympics and Black Stars went to his aid and admitted him to a rehab center where he underwent rehabilitation.

He was close friend with the maestro Abedi Pele during his playing days and was nicknamed Tigana after former French footballer Jean Tigana.

Tributes have started pouring in since his demise from the football fraternity.
