Former striker of Asante Kotoko Naby Keita Laye has taken a swipe at his former coach at Kotoko Mariano Barreto for disparaging comments he made about the club before departing for his native Portugal at the end of the season.

After failing to win the Ghana Premier League title which Hearts snatched from Kotoko who at some point in the season led Hearts by seven points but were overtaken by coach Samuel Boadu and his charges.

The Portuguese embarked on a media campaign slamming his club for being a small club in terms of infrastructure and only being big only in name among other things.

He blamed the team's miserable form on the lack of toilet facilities and other essentials at the club's training grounds.

The Guinean striker who joined Kotoko in 2018 brought his stint with the club to an end last week after the expiration of his contract.

Before leaving for his native Guinea he spoke in an interview with Ghanasportpage.com where he took aim at the Portuguese trainer for being uncultured and should have declined the Kotoko job offer when it was handed him since he knew they were lacking a lot in in frastructure.

“If the coach said that Asante Kotoko is not having a toilet then why did he come to work at the club?” Keita quizzed in an interview with Ghanasportspage.

“He should know that he is disgracing the club and himself. He shouldn’t have come out to say this because he knew that Kotoko didn’t win the league and he came out with this. It is not necessary.

“CK Akonnor was there, he was here, we were not having a toilet but we won the Special Competition and entered the group stages of the CAF Confederations without a toilet at the training ground. So what’s he talking about? He should stop being a coach,” he said.

“He talks and I listen to what he says but Kotoko’s toilet issues are rubbish.

“All of them were rubbish,” he added.

Keita, who joined Kotoko in 2018, fell down the pecking order under Baretto season and the Guinean international made a handful of appearances for Kotoko as a result.
