The words ‘Samsung' and ‘batteries’ are something that everyone is careful about while mentioning in one sentence. The firm, after the Note 7 battery explosion fiasco in 2016, has been following stringent steps to make sure something like that never happens in future.
Interestingly, its rival Apple also has some history with battery drains and performance tweaks and is now impressed by one of Samsung’s battery executives. So, the iPhone-maker is hiring the Samsung SDI Co. executive named Soonho Ahn.
As reported by Bloomberg, Ahn joined Apple last month as the global head of battery developments. With a history of working with Samsung since past three years as the global head of battery developments, Ahn is now likely to work on Apple’s own battery technology.

It is worth adding that Apple and Samsung's ‘frenemy’ relationship goes deeper than just AMOLED screens for the
iPhone X. The Cupertino-based tech firm has used batteries from Samsung SDI for its own iProducts in the past as well. With the hiring of a Samsung SDI executive, it is clear that the firm is trying to reduce its dependency on third-party/rival components.

Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphones battery might be disappointingSamsung's foldable smartphone may have a small battery of 4380mAh total capacity. The handet was initially reported to feature 6000mAh battery.

As mentioned by Bloomberg, Apple could be in talks to buy Cobalt from miners as it is the key component in battery packs. Samsung SDI too is planning to buy Cobalt. It is not for sure if we will see a massive improvement in the battery life of iPhones this year though.

Based on reports from the past few months, it has been suggested that Apple is working on its own MicroLED screen tech that will help the firm cut away from Samsung and LG in future. It is also reportedly planning to work on its own modems for iPhones and iPad devices. In other products such as Macs and MacBook laptops, the firm has already started working on its own processors (take T-security chips for instance).
