Shenzhen FC winger Frank Acheampong was among a squad of 30 players who were handed call ups to play for the Black Stars in two friendly matches in June.

The call up was done in May with Ghana to play two high profile friendly matches against Morocco in Rabat on June 8 and then against neighbours Ivory Coast on Saturday May 12.

Acheampong who has been overlooked in past Black Stars call ups was handed a rare invitation but failed to turn up for the match.

According to the Ghana Football Association, the player who lost his mother not too long ago sought permission and was even at the airport to see his team mates off reasons why he failed to join the team to Morocco.

"Frank is bereaved. He laid his late mother to eternal glory over the weekend and couldn’t make time to join the team for the matches. But the China based winger was at the Airport to see the team off as a sign of support." a statement from the Ghana FA read.
