Goalkeeper Frederick Asare has officially left Asante Kotoko following the expiration of his contract, ending a two-year stay with the club.

The 25-year-old opted not to renew his deal after failing to reach a financial agreement with Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC).

Despite interest from the club to retain him, negotiations collapsed due to differences in salary expectations.

Asare, who joined Kotoko in 2022 from Accra Lions, saw limited action in the 2024/25 season, losing his starting role to Guinean international Mohammed Camara.

He made 15 league appearances, kept seven clean sheets, and conceded 12 goals.

Once considered a rising star, Asare earned a call-up to the Black Stars in 2023 but has since fallen out of contention due to a lack of consistent game time.

Now a free agent, the former Accra Lions shot-stopper is reportedly attracting interest from clubs in East Africa and Europe ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window.

His departure is the latest in a series of expected changes to the Kotoko squad as the Porcupine Warriors gear up for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
