Concerned Transport Operators Union of Trade Union Congress (TUC) has registered its displeasure against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government over fuel price increment.

According to the Union, the unexpected increases which often do not correlate with transport fares are making the transportation business unattractive.

Speaking to Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo the National Administrative Secretary of the Union  Nana Antwi Fordjour Isaac said President Akufo- Addo during the 2016 general elections promised to reduce fuel prices when he wins power but fuel prices keep increasing under his government.

According to Nana Fordjour, fuel price increment under Akufo-Addo’s government has become one of the biggest challenges affecting their businesses saying drivers don’t reap benefits from their work.

“Nana Addo during 2016 elections told us to vote massively for him and promised us to reduce fuel prices if he becomes the president of Ghana. We were deceived by his sweet promises and now under his government, fuel prices keep going up. Drivers are suffering under Akufo- Addo’s government. We have petitioned government over fuel price increment but nothing has changed,” he said.

 Road Accident Increase

Nana Antwi Fordjour Isaac charged National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) to stop blaming drivers over increasing rate of road accidents but rather blame it on deplorable roads in the country.

Over 336 persons died as a result of road accidents in the first two months of 2018, the NRSC has disclosed.

Comparing the number of road accidents recorded this year to that of 2017, the Commission noted that there has been a significant rise in motor accidents in the early parts 2018.

Nana Fordjour commenting on NRSC report on road accident said deplorable road network has become a major challenge causing road accidents in the country.

He therefore appealed to government to put adequate measures in place to fix deplorable roads in Ghana especially the Ashanti region to help reduce accident.
