Assembly members in the Garu-Tempane District of the Upper East Region have debunked assertions made by President John Mahama that, construction works on the Garu-Tempane district hospital are progressing steadily or completed.
According to the assembly members, the Garu-Tempane district hospital project has been abandoned by the contractor seven months after clearing the site for commencement of construction works.
In an exclusive interview with Citi News in Garu, assembly member for Tempane electoral area, Mr. Ayariya, said residents in the area no long have fate in the project after the contractor abandoned the site.
“We are worried, the contractor was on site but for the past seven months we have not seen the contractor after clearing the land. We raised the issue in the assembly but the coordinating director said there have been a change in the plan for the hospital project which the contractor has left for the United Kingdom to bring the new plan for the project but up till now the site is still laying fallow. Even all the materials that was brought for the execution of the project have been carried away, we have no fate about the hospital again.”
“President Mahama even said, the Garu-Tempane hospital has been completed but I am the assembly man of the area and I am saying that, there is nothing, there is no structure at the site” Mr. Ayariga stated.
Sammuel Zangena, assembly man for the Zaare-Garu electoral area also said there was no foundation at the site yet president Mahama keep saying the project has been completed.
“We are appealing to president Mahama to do well, as much as possible to do the construction work for us”.
Assembly man for Worikambo electoral area, Mr. Nicholas Tampori expressed worry about the stalled project, adding that, its timely completion would bring relief to residents.
“If you look at the health conditions here, how women and children are suffering. when you go to most of the private hospitals the kind of billing they will give you. They have their own drug stores, they will just write your prescription and direct you to their drug stores to buy and if the government district hospital had been fast tracked it will have helped the people in the district” Mr. Tempori noted.
