The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) have officially extended the operational hours at Prempeh I International Airport (PIA) in Kumasi and Tamale International Airport (TIA), in a move aimed at improving domestic travel and boosting economic activity.

Under the revised schedule, Kumasi’s Prempeh I International Airport will now operate until 11:00 PM daily, while Tamale International Airport will remain open until 10:00 PM.

This strategic change is intended to enhance travel options for passengers arriving into Ghana from the UK, Europe, and other international locations via Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra. The extended hours make it possible for travelers to continue their journey to Kumasi or Tamale the same evening—avoiding overnight stays in the capital.

The initiative supports the government's "24-hour economy" policy and forms a key part of its broader Reset Agenda, which seeks to stimulate economic growth and improve livelihoods across the country.

Officials believe the extended hours will have a meaningful impact on local economies, particularly in Kumasi and Tamale, by increasing opportunities in tourism, transportation, and regional commerce.

Airport service providers, including car rental companies and food vendors, have welcomed the move, anticipating a surge in passenger traffic and corresponding growth in revenue.

Domestic airlines have also been encouraged to increase evening flight frequencies to meet the expected rise in demand, especially from travelers seeking flexible same-day connections.

To facilitate the rollout, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to alert all airline operators about the new operational timelines.

The GCAA and GACL say the change reflects their ongoing commitment to supporting national development through enhanced aviation infrastructure and services.
