Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil has been a Genk player since 2018 but will have his contract expire in the summer although the club have an option to extend it by a year.

Despite not being a regular starter for the Belgian club the player is open to extending his stay at the club.

According to the player's agent, the club will like the player to stay and will in the coming days take the option to extend his contract by a year.

Joseph Paintsil did not miss the start of the play-offs, because with one goal and two assists through two substitutes against AA Gent and KV Mechelen, he immediately made himself important for KRC Genk.

This weekend the lightning attacker started in the starting line-up against Sporting Charleroi, but Bernd Storck exchanged him for Paul Onuachu after the break.

That was not a hint from the German coach, because he gets on well with Joseph Paintsil and vice versa. The Ghanaian also does not mind that he is not a regular base player.

"Who is that at Genk", he said earlier this week in Het Belang van Limburg .

“The competition is very strong. The coach can easily bring more than 20 players between the lines. Starting a match or filling in, it makes no difference to me.”

KRC Genk would like an extended stay by Joseph Paintsil.

The entourage of the player makes it clear that the club is willing to put the attacker under contract for one more season.

Paintsil was a useful player for the Limburgers this season and it is naturally hoped to be able to recover the original investment of 3 million euros in due course.
