The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved the 2025/26 GFA Omnibus Competitions Calendar, signaling a structured and expansive football season.
The decision was made at a council meeting held on June 9, 2025, following a detailed presentation by the GFA General Secretary.
According to the newly adopted calendar, the upcoming football season will begin on July 1, 2025, and run through to June 30, 2026, in line with the Association’s accounting year and statutory requirements.
Importantly, the GFA has scheduled the conclusion of all elite domestic competitions ahead of the 23rd FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, 2026.
The Premier League will maintain its Sunday match tradition, with midweek dates reserved for any outstanding fixtures. This structure will also apply to the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League and the Division One League.
The MTN FA Cup will largely be a weekend affair, with only a few early-round matches potentially scheduled for midweek. The Women’s FA Cup will follow a similar weekend-only format.
A notable inclusion is the return of the GFA eTrophy – the national eFootball competition – providing a platform for gamers to showcase their skills and vie for national team selection.
Beach Soccer and Futsal Premier Leagues will feature prominently in the season, reinforcing the GFA’s commitment to diversifying football competitions nationwide.
All Regional Football Association competitions, including Division Two, Division Three, Women’s Division One, and the Boys and Girls Colts Leagues (U13, U15, U17), are set to kick off on or before October 1, 2025, and will end by May 31, 2026.
A significant development in the calendar is the nationwide rollout of Girls Colts Football (U15 and U17), following the successful pilot in the Northern and Greater Accra Regions.
This initiative, in partnership with FIFA and the Regional Football Associations, aims to deepen female youth participation in football.
In addition to the main season, the GFA has earmarked off-season competitions, including the Elite U15 Girls Championship, Elite U19 Second Division Championship, Boys U15 Elite Competition, and the KGL Foundation U17 Colts Championship.
By releasing the calendar early, including key dates like the registration window and the 31st GFA Annual Congress, the Association seeks to provide ample planning time for clubs and stakeholders.
The GFA remains committed to delivering a vibrant, competitive, and well-coordinated season across all tiers of Ghanaian football.
