The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a significant step toward improving football infrastructure in the country by distributing buses to nine Division One League clubs.
This initiative, which aligns with the GFA’s commitment to "fixing the fundamentals" of Ghana football, fulfills a pledge made by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku at the 29th Ordinary Congress in Kumasi in 2023.
The buses were presented to the top three teams from each zone of the Division One League following their performance last season.
The recipients include:
Zone 1
- Young Apostles FC – 1st place (Now in the Premier League)
- Techiman Heroes FC – 2nd place
- Victory Club Warriors – 3rd place
Zone 2
- Basake Holy Stars – 1st place (Now in the Premier League)
- New Edubiase FC – 2nd place
- Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs – 3rd place
Zone 3
- Vision FC – 1st place (Now in the Premier League)
- Okwawu United – 2nd place
- Hohoe United – 3rd place
The initiative aims to reduce transportation burdens on clubs while enhancing their operational efficiency. By providing reliable and comfortable means of transport, the GFA hopes to motivate clubs to perform at their highest levels.
President Simeon-Okraku's Vision
Speaking at the ceremony, President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku emphasized the importance of the initiative as part of a larger capacity-building strategy.
"This initiative is part of our broader strategy to empower clubs and ensure sustainable development of the game," he said.
He also noted that addressing logistical challenges is critical to strengthening the foundation of Ghana football.
Stakeholders' Reaction
The bus distribution has been met with widespread praise from football stakeholders, who view it as a transformative move.
Many expressed optimism that this support will significantly impact the Division One League's development, providing teams with the resources needed to focus more on their on-field performance.
Looking Ahead
This Bus Acquisition Strategy is expected to improve the operational capacity of Division One clubs, allowing them to better manage travel logistics and focus on competitive success.
It also reflects the GFA’s broader commitment to creating a sustainable and professional football environment across all levels in Ghana.
