Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has delivered a passionate message to the Black Stars, reminding the players of the team's legacy as they prepare for two critical 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Sudan.
Amid a challenging start to their AFCON campaign, with a 1-0 loss to Angola at home and a 1-1 draw against Niger in Morocco, the Black Stars have faced mounting criticism from fans and pundits.
Their performance in Group F has been underwhelming, leaving the team in need of a significant turnaround.
Ahead of their crucial double-header against Sudan, starting with the home fixture on Thursday, October 10, at the Accra Sports Stadium, Okraku visited the squad on October 8, 2024, encouraging them to learn from their recent setbacks and work towards redemption.
In a motivational speech, Okraku reflected on Ghana's history, drawing parallels between the country's fight for independence and the team's current situation.
"In 1957, Ghana gained independence, led by men with courage; men who did not flee from the battlefield. That’s why we achieved independence," Okraku stated.
He reminded the players of the Black Stars' rich history, emphasizing that the team existed long before they were born. "Mohammed [Kudus], before you were born, this team—Black Stars—already existed.
Alexander [Djiku], before you were born, this team was here. The question now is, in your time, what will be the difference? The difference lies in what you do with the opportunities given to you," he urged.
With their AFCON qualification hopes at stake, the Black Stars are aiming for a strong response in the upcoming matches against Sudan.
Fans are hopeful that Okraku’s rallying call will inspire the team to rise to the occasion and deliver the performances needed to secure a place in the 2025 tournament.
