The Ghana Football Association (GFA), have cleared the air over their delay in the settlement of outstanding salaries and bonuses of former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah.

Appiah, 61, who was on a $35,000 monthly salary is demanding for payment of all his salaries from August to December 2019 plus a one-match winning bonus of $10,000.

The coach has recently been very vocal on the situation, threatening to drag the matter to FIFA should the GFA fail to do the needful within the next 7 days.

But reacting to the issue, the Communication Director of the FA, Mr. Henry Asante Twum shed light on the situation.

He stated emphatically that it is not the responsibility of the FA to pay the coach, but the state.

“In Ghana, the state has always paid the coach and not the GFA. This has been the practice for several decades and nothing new” Asante Twum said.

“The GFA forwarded Kwesi Appiah’s letter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, so they are working on it. For now I cannot say anymore,” the GFA spokesman concluded.
