Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku has been elected by popular votes as the new Ghana Football Association president.

He succeeds former FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi after his 13 years in the helm of affairs as the nation's football chief.

Not without a fight Kurt had to fend off stiff competition from former GFA vice president George Afriyie after a marathon election.

After the first round of elections , Kurt Okraku won the GFA elections with 44 votes, followed by George Afriyie who amassed 40 votes.

Nana Yaw Amponsah managed to get 27 votes while Fred Pappoe only managed six votes before heading to a run off between Kurt Okraku, Nana Yaw Amponsah and George Afriyie because none had 50% + 1.

Former Ghana Football Association vice president Fred Pappoe who had six votes decided against going into the second round contest.

The other two contestants Amanda Clinton and George Ankomah had no votes.

Second round

Kurt Okraku won the second round of the Ghana FA presidential elections but could not win since he did not beat the 50 percent plus one vote once again.

Kurt Okraku polled 59 votes representing 49.6% George Afriyie 43 votes representing 36.1 % Nana Yaw Amponsah 15 representing 13.4% .

Just as everyone expected the elections to head into the third and final round where a simple majority would have determined the winner, George Afriyie who had twice been floored by Kurt Okraku threw in the towel acknowledging defeat for Kurt to move on.

Just as everyone thought Kurt Okraku was going to be declared the winner news filtered through that Kurt  must satisfy a legal requirement from what the law says by winning 50 plus one vote even though he will stand alone.

So delegates headed into an acclamation vote where the executive chairman of Dreams FC as the sole candidate garnered an overwhelming majority of 93 votes representing  96.9% to emerge as the new president of the Ghana Football Association.

Kurt is expected to serve a four year term and can be re-elected to serve another four years maximum.
