The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has explained why Black Stars coach Chris Hughton is going around watching matches in the domestic league.

In his first call-up for Ghana's two AFCON qualifier matches against Angola, there was no local player on the list.

He revealed that he had very little knowledge about the local players and he started acquainting himself with the domestic game as he watched Great Olympics defeat Berekum Chelsea.

The coach during his unveiling promised to watch a lot of matches in the domestic game and true to his word has kept his promise.

Asante Twum has revealed that the coach has a big responsibility that goes beyond just being the Black Stars coach as he has oversight responsibility over the other national teams.

“One of the things we discussed with Chris was to make good use of the opportunity anytime he finds himself here. He is somebody who loves the game and always wants to get closer to the action," he told TV3.

“Chris is the coach of the Black Stars but he has other responsibilities. Advice, guidance what have you to the other national teams so watching the games gives him the opportunity to also recommend players who fall within the competition. U-23, U-20, and U-17 who are still playing in the Black Stars and those he thinks also qualify to play in the Black Stars will be given a fair opportunity.

He added, “So it’s part of the mid to long-term process of incorporating everyone and giving everybody the opportunity to have a fair share of what is being done.”

“It’s a process. We are in the process of building a winning squad one more time. It will take time. It needs a lot of." he added.

The Black Stars coach was also at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the Black Meteors played against Algeria in the CAF U-23 AFCON qualifier and also watched Kotoko's 0-0 drawn game with King Faisal.

The  Black Stars will be in action in June for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
