The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in collaboration with FIFA and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), is launching an ambitious 9-month initiative titled Girls4Goals.

This transformative project aims to empower young girls in the Volta Region through sports, particularly mixed football, traditionally a male-dominated sport in Ghana.

The Girls4Goals initiative seeks to foster leadership, build resilience, and encourage greater participation in sports among girls, promoting gender equality.

By challenging societal norms and breaking barriers, the project envisions a future where girls and boys have equal opportunities in sports and beyond.

Leading this effort is a five-member steering committee chaired by Ama Brobey-Williams, GFA’s Deputy General Secretary and the Project Lead.

Supporting her are notable professionals including Malcolm Appeadu Frazier, Head of the GFA Foundation; Marian Mensah, Head of Legal, GFA; Winifred Mawudeku, Director of GSCE, GFA; and Collins Dei, Chief Finance Officer, GFA.

Gender equality expert Vera Addo also provides strategic guidance to align the initiative’s goals with its empowerment agenda.

On October 8th, 2024, Martin Braud, a representative from La Guilde, one of the international partners, visited the GFA office.

Braud expressed his admiration for the project’s vision, emphasizing its potential to not only uplift girls but also bring positive change to entire communities.

Through collaboration with local schools, traditional authorities, and community leaders, Girls4Goals aims to leave a lasting impact by enabling girls to thrive both on and off the field.

With support from global organizations and dedicated leadership, this initiative is set to inspire a new generation of female leaders, redefining gender roles through the power of sports.
