Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has categorically denied reports that the GHC18 million involved in the recent partnership between the GFA and Adesa Production Limited (APL) was sourced from government funds.

The landmark deal, unveiled last week in Accra ahead of the 2025-2026 Ghana Premier League season, will see each top-flight club receive GHC1 million ahead of the campaign’s kickoff in September. The agreement also includes the weekly broadcast of three live matches alongside a professionally produced league show.

However, speculation had emerged suggesting that the funding originated from the government’s coffers. Speaking on Asempa FM, Harrison Addo clarified the GFA’s position.

“Government has not taken its money and given it to the Football Association. The government’s role in this partnership was simply to create an enabling environment, and we are grateful for that support,” he said.

He further credited Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, and Sports Minister Kofi Adams for backing the project, which he believes will significantly benefit Ghanaian football.

“Government has not given us physical cash to invest in the league, but we hope the partnership succeeds because it is ultimately in the national interest.”

The 2025-2026 Ghana Premier League season is set to commence in mid-September, with the GFA optimistic that the new broadcasting and financial arrangement will elevate the competition’s quality and visibility.
