The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif has revealed that his outfit has urged the Ghana Football Association to maintain the technical team that qualified  Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

After Ghana's dismal showing at the 2021 African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon, Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac was shown the exit with Otto Addo being made the coach whiles George Boateng and Masaud Didi Dramani were made assistant coaches.

Whiles Irishman with Ghanaian father Chris Hughton was made a technical advisor to the Otto Addo lead technical team.

The new look technical team masterminded qualification over fierce rivals Nigeria in a two legged play off game.

Their contract ended after securing qualification to the World Cup against Nigeria but the GFA is keen to continue with the same team and are in talks to quickly wrap up negotiations with the German club as qualifies for the 2023 AFCON will begin in  June.


“The decision by the Ministry is that, the GFA should maintain the technical team that got us to qualify for the World Cup. The GFA is working very closely with the technical team to come up with the arrangements.

“Very soon, they would announce officially, led by Otto Addo, to take us through the World Cup participation and also the AFCON next in Ivory Coast,” the Minister said.

The GFA has been in negotiations with Dortmund about appointing Otto Addo as the new Black Stars coach ahead of the World Cup.
