Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), remains confident that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo can guide the team to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their recent disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana's AFCON campaign ended in failure, with a 1-2 loss to Niger at home, meaning the four-time champions will miss the continental tournament for the first time since 2004.

The team finished bottom of Group F with only three points from six matches, a result that sparked widespread criticism from fans, particularly on social media, with many calling for the dismissal of Addo.

Despite the uproar, Asante Twum believes that Addo and his technical team are capable of turning things around and securing Ghana's place in the 2026 World Cup.

"I believe that Otto Addo and his technical team are competent and capable of delivering World Cup 2026 qualification," Asante Twum told Asempa FM.

Currently, Ghana sits second in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers with three wins and one loss from their opening four matches, accumulating 9 points.

The Black Stars will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign in March 2025, when they take on Chad in match-day five.
