In a surprising turn of events, the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has issued a formal apology to Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, distancing itself from the recent impeachment comments made by its chairman, Kudjoe Fianoo.

Tensions escalated within GHALCA following Fianoo’s outspoken criticism of Okraku’s leadership, which he claimed was partly due to the Black Stars' challenges in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The GHALCA Executive Council held a critical meeting on October 24, 2024, where members expressed strong opposition to Fianoo's media campaign targeting the GFA President.

In response, GHALCA released an official apology letter addressed to GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, clarifying that Fianoo's views were personal and not representative of the organization. The letter reaffirmed GHALCA's commitment to maintaining a constructive relationship with the GFA.

"Much as we consider the comments as his personal view, we feel obliged to render an unqualified apology to maintain the cordial relationship existing between our two Associations and your continued support for GHALCA," the letter read, expressing hope for unified progress in Ghana football.

Fianoo’s remarks and his stated intent to spearhead an impeachment campaign against Okraku have stirred discontent among GHALCA members.

Many are concerned that his actions could destabilize the positive momentum built under Okraku’s leadership, especially as Ghanaian football recovers from a period of significant turmoil following the 2018 Anas exposé.

Under Kurt Okraku, Ghana football has seen gradual progress with strategic efforts to address long-standing issues.

Members within GHALCA now advocate for unity, seeing this as vital for sustaining the gains made and ensuring a stable future for the sport in the country.
