Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew is targeting a positive start in the upcoming AFCON 2021 qualifying campaign.

The 29-year old forward will lead Ghana when they face South Africa's Bafana Bafana in their opening game of the Qualifiers in Thursday at the Cape Coast Stadium.

And ahead of that, the Swansea City man believes his start have to start well.

"We have to make sure we start this qualification series really well", Ayew told reporters after the first training of the Black Stars in Accra on Monday.

"We are preparing for this game against South Africa on Thursday.

The game is on Thursday, the days for preparation is shorter but we are ready", he added.

Ghana haven't been engaged in international football since playing in the African Cup of Nations in Egypt in July but according to Ayew, their inactivity should not be an excuse to settle for anything less than a win against South Africa.

"it’s true that we haven’t join as a team for a while. the last two international breaks, we didn’t have international games so that’s a bit hard for us because we haven’t been together as a team for a while.

"But that’s not a excuse. our job is to get three points at home. we know it’s going to be difficult game at home but this week is week we will make sure we start the qualifier well", he continued.

On Ghana's group opponent, Ayew said, "We in a hard group. both Sudan and South Africa  we have met them right".

"Every national team have it qualities we have to know how to block their qualities and use ours because at the end of the day Ghana have great players ,we have players  who are confident, we have players who wants to prove  a point and we have players who wants to die for the nation.

"I can’t tell you for now this qualifications is not going to be difficult but we will sail through", The Black Stars captain concluded.

Ghana will switch camp to the Cape Coast sport stadium on Tuesday to continue preparations ahead of the tie against Bafana Bafana on Thursday evening.
