Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo has justified the inclusion of inactive midfielder Mubarak Wakaso in his squad for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

The 31 year old midfielder appears to have some credit in the bank as he has not played active football since November 2021 but has managed to rely on his past achievement to get a place in the team.

According to Coach Otto Addo,  the China based striker played well in the World Cup qualifier against South Africa in November and being class to the team.

Coach Otto Addo gave this explanation when answering questions after an interaction with the press before Wednesday's AFCON 2023 opener against Madagascar.

“ It’s so obvious that we need experience players in the team, he was great against South Africa in the world cup qualifiers and that’s the kind of class he brings.”

The Shenzhen FC midfielder has not played club football since last doing so in August 2021 and last played his last competitive fixture was November 2021.

He has since then been in Ghana and keeping fit with personal training drills at the Legon Ajax Park but has been called up whiles the likes of Alfred Duncan, Mudasiru Salifu and Majeed Ashimeru have been ignored.

Many Ghanaians have questioned why Mubarak Wakaso should literally be gifted a call up when he has been inactive for so long.

At the AFCON same Wakaso was sent to the tournament whiles injured and could not play a single minute before Ghana exited at the group stage.
