Henry Asante-Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has shed light on the factors contributing to the Black Stars' early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ghana's campaign in Ivory Coast began with high expectations but faced an early setback with a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde.

Despite drawing their next two Group B games against Egypt and Mozambique, the Black Stars finished third with just two points, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.

Asante-Twum, speaking on Joy FM's News File, reflected on the team's last two matches and identified various factors that hindered their performance, ultimately leading to their failure to progress.

"When you cast your mind back to the game against Egypt and Mozambique, you could see certain factors affected our performance and that prevented us from qualifying for the next round of the tournament," he stated.

Ghana's premature exit marks the second consecutive time the Black Stars have been eliminated in the group phase.

The disappointing outcome led to the departure of head coach Chris Hughton, reflecting the consequences of the team's underwhelming performance.
