Former Ghana defender and Hearts of Oak captain Yaw Amankwah Mireku  says that the bane facing the Black Stars of Ghana currently is the lack of quality players and consistency.

Ghana's 1-0 loss to South Africa seem to have opened a Pandora box with many former players and Ghanaians sharing varied opinions.

The Black Stars lost their second game of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Monday evening.

Ghana had a single shot on target the entire game with the closest Ghana went near the goalkeeper William's goal was when Joel Fameyeh was tripped when he was through on goal and Wakaso effecting the resultant freekick which was on target.

Bafana Bafana scored in the 83rd minute as Maritzburg United striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane cushioned a cross into the far corner to open the scores for South Africa

“Ghana lack quality players and at the same time consistency. If CK Akonnor is able to keep this current squad for a longer period, they will perform extraordinary, but it will also be disastrous for us if we call the players today and eject them tomorrow for a different squad”, he told Takoradi-based Ahoto FM.

He continued that, “footballers make coaches so if players are not performing, it affects the coach so Akonnor shouldn’t be blamed for the team’s abysmal performance.”

Black Stars return to action with a home and away matches against Zimbabwe and Ethiopia next month.
