For the first time in history, Police Ladies lifted the Ghana Women’s Premier League title with a commanding 2-0 win over defending champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.

Title holders, Ampem Darkoa came into the game well determined to retain their title but the ladies from the Police service had other ideas coming into the final encounter at the UG Sports Stadium in Accra.

Police Ladies looked more composed in the opening half of the game and had  their resilience being rewarded in the 27th minute when reliable attacker, Jane Ayieyam found the back of the net after endured pressure.

The Techiman-based Ampem Darkoa ladies pushed through for an equaliser on various occasions in the second half but all efforts to pull parity came to a  halt by the disciplined Police Ladies backline.

With the clock winding down, Victoria Teye Williams delivered the “coupe de grace” on the 89th minute to seal the victory and also a memorable night for the service ladies.

The result ends Ampem Darkoa’s recent dominance in the women’s league, having previously beaten Police Ladies 2-0 in the 2017 Super Cup also.

Sunday’s triumph not only hands Police Ladies their maiden league trophy but also secures them a place in next season’s CAF Women’s Champions League, a suitable reward for their consistency, resilience, determination and commitment throughout the entire season.

To put the icing on the cake, it is revealed that the civilians amongst the team will be handed immediate recruitment into the Ghana Police Service for their hard work throughout the season.
