The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr. Simon Madjie, has thrown his full support behind a proposed $1 billion Innovation and Technology Hub to be developed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), describing it as a game-changing project for Ghana’s digital and investment landscape.
Speaking at a strategic meeting in Accra with the UAE Ambassador to Ghana, Dr. Abdulla Almandoos, Mr. Madjie emphasized the transformative potential of the initiative, saying it would not only deepen bilateral economic ties but also fast-track Ghana’s vision of becoming a digital hub in West Africa.
“This initiative can accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation and position the country as a hub for technological excellence in the region,” he said.
The state-of-the-art tech hub, fully financed by the UAE’s Ports, Customs and Free Zones Corporation (PCFC), is expected to break ground in 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027. Under the partnership, Ghana will provide the land, while PCFC will handle financing, construction, and management of the facility.
The Innovation and Technology Hub will feature:
Advanced data centres
Incubators for tech start-ups
Co-working spaces
Modern infrastructure for both emerging and established technology firms
Once operational, the facility is expected to become a key driver of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Ghana’s digital economy and broader knowledge-based sectors.
Mr. Madjie assured that the GIPC would act as a key facilitator, helping attract global investors and ensuring that the project aligns with the country’s Ghana Digital Economy Policy.
“The hub complements our long-term digital development strategy, and GIPC is committed to supporting its success through strategic investment promotion and policy alignment,” he noted.
Ambassador Dr. Abdulla Almandoos highlighted the mutual benefits of the initiative, calling on regional telecom and technology companies to take advantage of the opportunity to operate within the hub.
He further revealed that companies based in the hub may have access to UAE-issued licenses, which could allow them to scale their businesses across global markets.
“This Ghana-UAE Innovation and Technology Hub aims to drive sustainable growth, foster collaboration, and boost innovation across various sectors,” Ambassador Almandoos stated.
The proposed hub is expected to serve as a catalyst for digital innovation, job creation, and regional competitiveness, positioning Ghana as a leader in Africa’s fast-evolving tech ecosystem.
